Supposing wikileaks did in fact sniff around for confidential documents in P2P networks. This would only show that wikileaks is good in investigative journalism. Confidential documents are not supposed to appear on P2P networks (you know? Confidential? As in “not meant to be shared”? In a file-sharing network, of all places? Seriously?). Therefore even if wikileaks had done that, there’s nothing wrong with it (there IS something wrong with the people who shared the files themselves, but not with wikileaks).
First we have “consensual rape” charges, now “investigative journalism” charges, what’s next, blocking access to all the wikileaks mirrors because the cleaning lady forgot to feed her cat yesterday evening?

Anyone watching the search monitor in a Gnutella client will see thousands of automated searches, many of them containing the names of banks, prescription drugs, or insurance companies. Clearly there’s a botnet out there searching for people’s confidential documents. That’s bad, but it doesn’t point to WikiLeaks.

Tiversa’s ‘convenient’ discovery (check out its miitary connections) that four members of that botnet are located in Sweden is very far from being a smoking gun. Sweden != WikiLeaks, except perhaps if you work at the Pentagon.

read the article, its quite interesting. even the american media are out to get a fellow journalist and string him up.

the article is full of mistruths, i love the one where they equate getting a file from limewire as theft of confidential information.

this story thats doing the rounds has no facts, no substance and no regard for truth. I am searching P2P for information on torrentfreak’s connection to the U S administration or to Rupert Murdoch or is it one and the same.

And so the effort to cast wikileaks as an active originator of leaked materials continues. I think America and others want this image cast so they are able to tell the world that Assange actively worked with Manning on sourcing the cablegate documents. This way they can charge him with espionage and lock him up.
