YouTorrent: Great New BitTorrent Search Engine
Written by Ernesto on January 04, 2008New BitTorrent sites are launched every day, but only a few stand out or have something new to offer. YouTorrent is such a new site; feature-wise it’s just a meta-search engine, but the design and user interface make it one of the best I’ve seen.
YouTorrent is “the world’s first real-time torrent comparison search engine” according to the site itself. The site is a meta search engine, which means that it doesn’t host any torrent files itself. It currently searches 12 sources; Mininova, The Pirate Bay, IsoHunt, MyBittorrent, NewTorrents, SuprNova, Monova, Vuze, BitTorrent, LegitTorrents, SeedPeer and BTjunkie.
This list of BitTorrent sites is not extensive, but it covers the three most popular torrent sites. A search for the recently released second part of Steal This Film returns quite a few results which are presented in a clean way. By default the results are ordered by popularity (seeds/peers), but they can be further sorted by date, size, and search engine.
If you can’t find what you were looking for you have the option to check for related and popular searches in the sidebar. At the moment the site has no ads and is pretty fast, but that might change in the future. Overall, for people who like meta search engines, I think that YouTorrent is worth a visit.
More useful BitTorrent sites can be found in our roundup of the 10 most popular BitTorrent sites of 2007. Do you know any other BitTorrent sites with some innovative features that we haven’t covered yet here at TorrentFreak? Let us know and leave a comment.

wow #20, great post, thanks a lot matey!
Love it - thanx again, Ernesto! =]
P.S. Nobody bleating on about needing ‘donations’ for ’server costs’ there either.
Weird that, huh..? ;D
I am a mass torrent upload
so site that don’t have me as uploader cannot be good.
I am torrent master
aka torrent savior
looks nice, but it needs triming, and tuning. and addition of more search options.
I added an open search plugin for it. So now you can add it to the top right list of search locations in FireFox2, IE7, and any other browser which supports Open Search Plugins. This is nice because you can select YouTorrent for the search engine, then if you ever see something interesting on a page, select the text, then right click and click “Search in YouTorrent”. Very handy. You can find it and more OSPs at http://www.jorgepena.be/open-search/

Didn’t work for me [in IE7 anyhoo], so I wrote a new one (if anyone’s interested?)
P.S. If you’re telling your n00b mates about the site, make sure they don’t go to http://www.newtorrentS.com - it’s a bunch of fuckheads attempting to extort money for uTorrent. WANKERS!
Yea
http://www.torrentz.com & http://www.torrentstorage.com are me new homes
Got care much for the interface of this site
its youtorrent.com not youtorrents.com
So hawt. :(
its youtorrent.com not youtorrents.com
either way i dislike them both
putting a “you” prefix wasn’t the most clever move in the world but as long as the service is working with few problems let the good times roll.
wow #20, great post, thanks a lot matey!
Not a problem, glad someone was paying attention. That plug-in is light years ahead of YouTorrent or any other search engine. Happy searching!
If anyone else is interested, read #20 and get yourself the state of the art in torrent searching. Screenshots are there as well.
And no, I don’t have anything to do with it or the people who created it. I’m just a very satisfied user. I’ve found torrents and specialty torrent sites I never would have heard of if not for this terrific Firefox add-on. :D
@31: Alright thanks for the heads up. Although I just tried it in IE7 and it worked, oh well.
Great! Love it.
seems cool, definitely stands out with the simplicity.
youtorrent looks like when you search they are searching in real time them caching the results..clever
btw h33t is good (traker and torrents), unfortunately their site layout is HORRIBLE.
It’s A Trap
If only they had a frickin favicon…
damn. quick turnaround. favicon has landed.
WARNING: If you visit it with JavaScript/Cookies disabled (as I do when I visit unknown sites) it hangs forever saying WAIT. They need to fix this.
Matching is imperfect. If you type multiple terms, it does an OR search. The Internet is a big place. We don’t need OR results: We need AND results.
Also matches root words: e.g. kare will match karen. If I wanted karen, I would have typed “karen”.
Nice idea, but needs work.
It rules. Well, for lazy people like myself at least. =D

Alright, if you remove it from your search plugins, then re-add it, you should see the favicon now. You should also see it at the page too. http://www.jorgepena.be/open-search/
@ 34:
Perhaps you should tell that to the minuscule site YouTube before they become a monopoly with a bad name.
