I sort of like the CineMode idea as a way to encourage people to keep their phones down while still allowing them to choose what they want. The fact that they did that to a senior citizen is quite ruthless and honestly appalling though. I’m quite happy that I’m not going to a cinema any time soon.

This was legal to do in Canada until a few years ago when our PM [Harper] — the lapdog of former us president bush — changed the law to make bush & his cronies happy.

I don’t understand why theaters like that still exist.

It’s one thing to watch a movie on a big screen with friends at home, or a game at a pub with other regulars and friends, but watching a movie at a cinema surrounded by hundreds of strangers, some of them pretty strange, it can get downright disgusting. I just don’t get it.

A few things:

One, about the bitching about bag searching, you
may want to brush up on an incident at a CINEMARK OWNED theater in
Aurora Colorado a few years back…

Or the one a little bit
afterwards, where Regal manager had a suspicious man’s bag searched and
found multiple weapons including a loaded gun.

Two, studios will
routinely send under-cover checkers to theaters all over the country.
Said checkers will try to theater-hop, record the film ect. Failing a
check of this sort gets you in deep shit, and can even cause theater to
loose it’s distribution deals with the studios…

…conversely, successfully catching an actual movie pirate gets the lucky minimum-wage employee who does so a $500 cash reward.

Three,
theater employees spend their days getting yell at by morons who have
some how made the asinine conclusion that the person helping them is
somehow personally responsible for how high the prices are. As a result,
kicking people out tends to bring great joy to your average theater
worker, so if there’s complaint, ESPECIALLY about suspected piracy, it’s
going to get taken very seriously.

It’s $500 actually.

And, for the record, Cinemark owns the Aurora theater, and it was after the Dark Knight shooting that they, and most other theaters started REALLY enforcing the bag-checking policy. It just A LITTLE disingenuous to ignore that elephant in the room when bitching about that policy.
