That was from 2006. TalkTalk oppose anti-piracy laws: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Illegal_file_sharing_in_the_United_Kingdom#Opposition

The press release (“we wont surrender our customers details to rights holders. This is our stance and we will maintain it”) was from 2010 (2011?).

Complain to the BBC. Them being the ONLY news agency that listens to the people’s concerns, I think we all should. They shouldn’t cite lobbyists for the entertainment industry as a reliable statistic.

I’m not too worried or concerned about their approach, and reckon they’ve been really quite clever by participating in this 3-month experiment because it will provide us and the gov’t with real stats and an analysis of how badly this whole ill-conceived Act actually is.

I currently have faith in TalkTalk to remain responsible and to protect privacy where they can. But we’re watching them carefully – VERY carefully, and will be reading their reports with a critical eye.

Further to this, here is a quote from Wikipedia’s (yes, I know) entry for the Digital Economy Act:
“TalkTalk have also argued that the requirement in Ofcom’s draft code of conduct that only ISPs with 400,000 customers or more would initially be subject to the Act “could [lead to] huge swathes of customers moving to smaller ISPs to avoid detection””

Switch to a smaller ISP, or better yet, switch to using a proxy or a seedbox – but do your research and make sure it’s a good provider: there’s nothing to stop the MAFIAA from opening up their own services (or even buying out someone else’s services), for use as a honey trap.

If you want to pirate stuff in the UK, use TalkTalk as your ISP. They don’t send out letters from copyright holders, and they fight anti-piracy legislation.
