Capital is a substantial amount of *surplus value* created by workers and appropriated by owners. That is, it is objectified labor, representing accumulated value over and above what is paid to workers.

What you do, assuming you work for a company, is create much more value than you are paid in a salary. The copyright (not copy-write) laws give owners the ability to pay workers far less than the value they create. Most creative people who work in the arts know this personally – they get paid crap by the media companies, who then profit over and over again over many years from their work.

Moreover, the value appropriated by capital is then used in the political system to advance laws and policies inimical to the interests of most people.

If you do not work for a corporation, and simply write code, copyright it and turn a coin thereby, well good for you. But even so, you must recognize that much of what is possible for you to do is only possible because of the uncopyrighted and unowned work of others. Gates, Jobs, Woz, were all huge ‘pirates’ by today’s definition. They’ve even admitted it.
