I can confirm that not only is AT&T using the technology, they are licensing it out to other ISP's. Cox Communications here in Oklahoma has it. One thing I can tell you; the level of control the filters are using is not possible absent intrusive and penetrating examination of your IP packets. Also, not only do they block access to "illegal" sites like TPB, they block entire protocols like TOR and Gnutella. And of course they also block torrent sharing.....ALL torrent sharing, with no distinction made for "legal" activity. And they don't wait for a C&D letter from MPAA any more; they have a standing deal: they will actively hunt for anyone using the bit torrent protocol and clamp their connection based upon their NAT ID, which is crucial: they are now controlling YOUR network, not their own. Their property stops at their modem. And if you own your modem, it stops at the wall plug in your home or home-office. But to kick ONE COMPUTER off the internet and allow the other computers on your private network to connect requires them to access your hardware, not theirs.

FYI: I think testing for this may already be taking place; I have had some interesting issues this past week with my at&t internet… My speed gets throttled after ~10min. (during non peak hours) and does not return back to normal speeds "on it's own," however after running the "at&t speed test" the speed returns for about 2min. and the same thing happens again.
Everyone expects to get paid for their labor. This isn't particularly germain to a discussion about capitalism.

Capital is a substantial amount of *surplus value* created by workers and appropriated by owners. That is, it is objectified labor, representing accumulated value over and above what is paid to workers.

What you do, assuming you work for a company, is create much more value than you are paid in a salary. The copyright (not copy-write) laws give owners the ability to pay workers far less than the value they create. Most creative people who work in the arts know this personally - they get paid crap by the media companies, who then profit over and over again over many years from their work.

Moreover, the value appropriated by capital is then used in the political system to advance laws and policies inimical to the interests of most people.

If you do not work for a corporation, and simply write code, copyright it and turn a coin thereby, well good for you. But even so, you must recognize that much of what is possible for you to do is only possible because of the uncopyrighted and unowned work of others. Gates, Jobs, Woz, were all huge 'pirates' by today's definition. They've even admitted it.

[…] Reported by TorrentFreak, the new technology brands a user based on their network activities. A user is assigned a ‘risk class’ if they visit certain sites. After further monitoring, this allows an ISP to take action and may result in a user having their access to sites like sharing websites blocked. […]

I write software. I expect to get paid. And yes, it's why I do it. To get paid. Copywrite law makes sure I can. "It takes real brain power to break out of the domination of intellectual thought by capitalist ideology. " Karl Marx was supposedly a real smart guy, too. The truth is smart people are great at rationalizing just about any old stupid thing, to themselves and others.
