One thing to take away from the RIAA/MPAA lawsuits is that they made these grandmothers and kids martyrs. These copyright holders stopped looking like victims and started looking like extortionists. They managed to destroy any sympathy that the public had for them. Sony is doing the same thing with Hotz. Hotz is a kid who happens to have a set of skills that can occasionally piss off multinational corporations. Hotz jailbroke the Iphone which enabled people to do what they wanted to do with their phones. These people are not necessarily immersed in the tech world like many of the readers of this site probably are.

They may not even be all into "freedom" like we are here, but they know that their Iphones do what they want them to do without Apple being able to dictate to them. Even if they do get Hotz they will just end up making themselves look like the bad guys even as they try to characterize his work as enabling piracy or cheating. The common consumer feels like they own their consoles or other items when they buy them and it does not matter what any contract or law says about the issue. Hotz did experiments with his machine and told the world about his findings. The common consumer is going to understand that. Sony and it's sycophants screaming about pirating games and cheating in online games are not going to win that fight when people have been cheating in console games long before Hotz and others broke through Sony's security measures. They will also be cheating in these games long after Sony closes the security hole.

I bet that many adult consumers wish they had a kid as mentally capable as Hotz. He could be doing drugs or some other things far less productive than tinkering with smartphones and game consoles.

Indeed, the war has been won already. Except that the battles must be fought to the end. Killing is not wrong because the law says so. It's wrong because ppl strongly believe and accept with proper reasoning that it's wrong. Copyright is the wrong thing here because ppl believe it's ok to share for no money while they object selling copies (illegal) for profits.

It'll be a major win if it becomes legal to jailbreak consoles. And Sony will have it up their arses. Their EULA is a bad joke, makes you wonder if the console is yours, even if you never plan to mod/hack it. I'm not buying a PS3 before it gets completely hacked. And I'm not buying any games while I wait too, ain't it funny?

As for me, even though I do hate how Sony (and the rest of the MAFIAA) are doing things, I'm not enough of an hypocritical person to say I don't want to have one to play a few awesome games I've already seen. Mixed feelings. I wish there was no such thing as console exclusive content, would make things more... Competitive. O wait, copyright is all about creating monopolies.

I doubt that they will sue anyone even if they did download jailbreak.zip. It wouldn't make sense. If the MPAA and these other mass lawsuits are failing more often now. Them suing people who did not necessarily even use the jailbreak on their device isn't going to do them any favors. For every ten guys they extort money from they increase hatred of them by 1000. It would probably make it more likely that consoles will be given the same exemption that smartphones enjoy in 2013. We are likely going to win this in the end, and the moment they accept this, they win too.
