Copyright industry fails to understand piracy is mainly a problem related to the business and not to legisltation, It doesn’t ask itself about pricing nor availability… Trying to nail preconceived ideas into kids from a young age won’t change the fact that the industry is doing everything backwards. It needs to change, not try to change others. Last but not least, authors don’t make nearly as much as labels, studios or editors…

The reason why this is hypocritical is because Wendy Cope before she was being congratuleted to by the queen, probably shared physical books with friends. Having virtual friends is only a technicality.

Kids don’t need instruction on that. Generally speaking, that knowledge disseminates naturally. They find things out for themselves which is what is so great about the internet.

It’s a bit like the embarrassed father or mother who tries to teach their kids about the birds and the bees only to find they’ve been sneaking glances at naughty books – or have learned from their friends – for years.

To be fair, tesla’s ideas are more than just economically unviable. Broadcasting power is being attempted and right now they’re far enough that a house supersaturated with emitters can charge something on the order of a mobile phone. Dispersion is global meaning you lose way over 99% of the power as radiation.

After that the principles of electromagnetic field dispersion takes over. Meaning distance quickly becomes an insurmountable barrier. Hence you need to focus the power on the device you want recharged.

I know there are attempts to make focused microwave transmitters capable of delivering power, but so far no viable prototype exists.

And think about it, focused transmission of power capable of running the city? That’s basically a beam cannon. I don’t fancy every power station being capable of transforming into a medium-range maser capable of melting steel just by shifting the focus.

You can teach children any amount of utter fables as long as it isn’t obviously wrong. You can teach them there’s an invisible flying spaghetti monster governing the tides. You can tell them the earth is flat. You can teach them their mother is actually an alien trying to blend in (and doing a fine job of it).

What you can not teach a child is the obvious lie. Such as that the emperor is clothed when in reality he’s proudly showing his curly-haired dingleberries in full frontal view.

Or that it’s somehow “theft” to make a copy of something else when in reality everyone is doing that, every day. Kids are quite savvy enough to realize the obvious comparison between filesharing and, for example, building a model similar or identical to someone elses. Or baking cookies.

Above all, copyright is a very obvious lie indeed. It won’t even make sense until after it has been packaged into complex semantics and legal language up to the point where adults begin to lose track of the reality of the situation.

Try teaching that to a child. It will not follow the complexity, but WILL see that it’s being told the emperor does indeed have clothes when plainly he doesn’t.

That’s more or less the view of the pirate party. Keep copyright strictly in the commercial domain, enabling royalties, and then for a limited time only – 5 years with an extra 3 5-year periods worth of extension being possible.

And keep your mitts of noncommercial filesharing which is, in the end, only people sending one another copies of their own property.

I can imagine a horde of irate parents who might not have cared one way or the other about copyright but come down heavily on the pirate side of the fence once they discover their kids are being ostracized by teachers and a cadre of fanatical failed authors stuck in the 18th century.

Copyright does not make sense. Intellectual Property runs right up against the “naked emperor” paradigm because a child will call the world as it sees it. Not the way it can see it after first having processed a LOT of cognitive dissonance.
