I just watched it to the end. I bow to the presentation, it's pure quality. The only point I disagree is when he presents the matrix and states that amateur copy should have some mixed system. Non-commercial copies should be completely free. And content producers should offer nice means to support the authors (and publishers too) and it can be done with exclusive limited goods for instance. Even physical media will still be an alternative, who wouldn't buy the DVD of their favorite series? DRM free.

Still, GREAT video. A must watch (or simply listen).

Basically it's more efficient because the fuel gets burned more uniformly in a bigger area. At least that's what I got from my readings heh.

Indeed it bothers me too. Now if it won't guarantee financial earnings then it's not even considered. I mean, it's like mathematics, sometimes the findings have no practical use but a few years (or decades) later BOOOM, they become the core of a greater (and often profitable) discovery. But at the beginning it actually leaded to financial loss.

The problem is the system. Profit above all is not something that will lead us [the human being] anywhere.

Precisely! I mean, there's a limit to ridiculousness. It's ok, you can charge for newer articles but $40 for 15 pages that actually won't present much learning at most cases? Why not charge $1 o $2 and then S5-$10 for full works? But that's not the issue.

The professor can't use his OWN work! Because it's not his! If we go back in history we can see such excesses in other copyright and patent cases (who hasn't heard of an inventor that died poor and in shame while some other douche used his invention/ideas to make millions?).

Copyright needs reform. Private use is NOT to be charged. Academic works that weren't SPECIFICALLY hired by a private company are NOT to be charged. The printing press allowed dissemination of culture and wow, we had some freaking awesome development in science and technology after that. But what's happening now? We are restricting this very same dissemination that reached brilliant minds that would otherwise have remained in the dark. And it includes academic works, movies, songs and wow, I know an awesome guy that created a whole new rhythm out of "Mission Impossible" theme beat. Technically isn't he breaching copyright? Pisses you off if you think about it.

Yup! Copywrong is wrong coz it's killing science, it's killing music, it's killing innovation, it's killing human development by restricting knowledge, and it's killing itself too as a concept of fairness and proper reward to the creators.

Copywrong has instead been transformed into a tool of market manipulation in which the creators are conned out of their legal rights by the copywrong cartel.

I vote NO MORE.
I urge SENSE to prevail.

We're ALL being held back by these Krazy Kopywrong Krooks - and it's gotta STOP!!!

worse than that.. even basic understanding for common folk costs hundreds of pounds.

eg..... TTC Video lectures £200 each...
which I have a few favorites............... ( 20-40 X 30min video lectures per course )

TTC Video Physics in Your Life
TTC Video Particle Physics for Non Physicists
TTC Video Joy of Science

The price of knowledge ? Shame... it's the preserve of the rich.

The closest thing the average person get's to knowledge is watered down discovery/history channel entertainment.

So how is fludized bed combustion better than pulverized coal? Save us all $40 and tell us!

Seriously... it is a stupidly insane system which is going on in these important areas of life.

As a race we're totally locked into the game theory mindset by where everyone thinks all the others are out to rip them off and f*ck them over; rather than paying people their dues if you later benefit from their previous work. We (people) are just convinced that we're all only in it for the money rather than any grander vision.

Sometimes this planet bothers me tremendously.

Are there any CC outlets for scientific papers? I guess not, as even universities are becoming more and more corporate and less and less about learning and the furtherment of mankind.

*sigh*
