I'm an avid what.cd user myself and I didn't know there was any reason at all even for a boring pedant to care about the capitalization of it.

I just google image searched what.cd and most of the images show it in all lowercase. It doesn't look to me like capitalization is important. I think he's just being a twat.

Perfectly reasonable question. This won't be satisfying but unfortunately, I can't discuss the details of this attack.

Here's the best practices KB article that outlines security guidelines [1]. Users are also encouraged to block all IPs not listed on our backend IPs page [2]

To get the full benefit of CloudFlare, site owners should be proxying BitTorrent HTTP announce traffic through CloudFlare as well as their main website. CloudFlare is capable of proxying traffic across a variety of ports [3]. This will reduce load and bandwidth consumption significantly on trackers and provide DDoS protection against attackers.

Disclaimer: I work for CloudFlare.

CloudFlare is built on open technologies similar to the way uTorrent is closed source but follows the BitTorrent specification. [1] Many of our projects are available on GitHub for peer review and collaboration. [2][3] Take a few minutes and check out our blog. You'll find that we're actually very outspoken and transparent about how we do business. [4] I challenge you to find a more transparent company with a similar offering.

As far as performance, we operate 24 datacenters world wide [5] and use a routing methodology called AnyCast [6] which reduces round trip times by routing traffic to the datacenter nearest to your visitors. This architecture is immensely more scalable than the way most trackers operate currently with a unicasted IP address and single server. We've spent millions of dollars building the most robust network capable of sustaining the largest DDoS attacks the internet has ever seen. [7]

Outages due to DDoS are a solved problem. Don't take my word for it, the product is free. Try it for yourself.
