It’s also a video hoster which needs to make deals with the big record companies so it can legally host their music, it’s a book searcher which needs the favor of book publishers to stay alive, it owns Android and needs to make deals with content providers to lure users to it, and it’s trying to find ways to get into the music/TV business. If Google were just a search indexer, yeah, it would fight a lot harder than it is, but right now, it needs to suck up to the RIAA/MPAA/etc for its other ventures to thrive.
