alot of the torrenting isn’t just to get free stuff but because tech-type people want this type of access to movies and music and television, but the content providers don’t make it available. i’d be happy to buy season 3 of game of thrones on box set for instance, but it won’t reach stores til damn near december 2013. make the content available and there wouldn’t be nearly as much file sharing

Option 2 leaves you free to consult a lawyer…..who may advise you to hand everything over but who’s to say that the offer would still be on the table ?

Which is why option 2 not only left the person the with their domain, it left them the freedom to seek advise but also meant that they had to be prepared for the consequences. I still don’t think there’s a need for a third option because it can all be done in two….your choice though, makes no difference.

Not really. A lawyer could just as easily recommend you give in and turn over your domain, which is option 1. There is no way to know until you bring one in, so it’s deserving on being an option all on it’s own. They may even recommend a strategy neither of us have considered, if they’re really good. There is a lot of factors to consider too. The most important thing to take from this is that one should never say anything to law enforcement, especially those pretending to be, until you’ve consulted a lawyer.

I think they gave him a clearly worded choice. He didn’t have to make the choice he did.

I’m sure in his shoes, you would act differently. Some people will piss their pants, some will make the considered choice and take the path of least resistance, and some will freak the fuck out over an issue where evidence points to their wrong doings but, irrespective of that they’ll lash out at people for doing their jobs in any event (traffic wardens get this all the time)

The choice is obviously yours, it’s your life.
