I bet that FBI might unlikely disqualify application who downloaded illegal movies IF only HONEST answering on questions. Note: Polygraph evidence doesn't lie. It based a true story that I had FBI raid in the dormitory about three years ago where they arrested my sicko ex-roomie who engaged child pornography. FBI forensic investigators knew that my laptop had dozen pirated movies and history website of adult pornography. I was surprised that The FBI detective replied on my question: "No worries" about torrenting pirated movies because it wasn't part of my ex-roommate's case. I quickly realized that FBI focuses on cases of illegal cyber activity excluding torrenting movies

I think that Torrenting movies is sometimes discouraging due to possible threat of MPAA lawsuits or security concerns such as potential IP trackers from child pornography possession or cyber criminals according to PeerBlock with iBlacklist, that's why I am sick of getting IP trackers for bitorrent which could lead spying. Please correct if I'm wrong. I personally want don't use TOR all times because I hide nothing, just honestly :)

Indeed, many federal workers do smoke weed and torrenting movies/TV Shows.

FBI is actually interested to recruit any high-intelligent people regardless illegal contents. They can obviously disqualify any applications if falsehoods are uncovered.

Well... first of all... it is no real change, what you describe has been going on since 1778, they only have the people living over there, that live over there. So it is not 20, it is 220 years.
One of the exceptions to that american rule, Benjamin Franklin literally predicted all of that, he knew and WROTE that in 200 years, NOW, the US would have such as criminal conglomeration and still call it a government for the people, and, biggest joke of all: by the people

Not everything is bad over there... The national parks are still quite glorious, 80% of Americans believe that Ronald Reagen had them built....

"These type of questions are just there to see if you'll lie under oath..."

And a polygraph is worse than useless in detecting that factor.

The minority of people to really be concerned about - sociopaths and psychopaths without any moral qualms? They will always and invariably pass such a test.

Decent people who are nervous? They will fail it.

"Your ISP knows about your downloading habits."

No, my ISP knows only that I run a line of gibberish to one single server after which it loses track of the traffic. I'm sure the concept of a VPN should be known to you.

The US tends to lag behind in use of encryption but in Sweden there were an estimated 400,000 users in 2009 and still growing explosively - from 20,000 in 2006 right before our own version of the NSA mass surveillance scheme broke. I'm pretty sure today encrypted connections are rapidly becoming the standard in any place where internet is readily accessible.

The apps on the mobile device know only what you do on that device and then only if you've managed to install apps holding more access rights than would be considered reasonable.

I'll grant you that having a Mac and an iPhone both opens to more integrated information gathering but that's not an issue for ~95% of the population.

" Any of which could be compiling a database of downloaders and selling on the details, to insurance companies, banks, recruiters, etc. "John Doe is prepared to engage in a bit of larceny if he thinks he can get away with it.""

Since that information would be worth pure gold in the hands of anyone willing to deal with firms of Prenda/ACS:Law-type we'll have to consider the hypothesis that either you are wrong or savvy entrepreneurs no longer exist in modern times.

Not sure if you're spreading FUD or speaking while wearing the tinfoil hat, but either way you aren't really being correct in your estimate.

And as a footnote, copying a file has as much correlation to "larceny" as spitting on the sidewalk does to premeditated vandalism. Something most law enforcement personnel are well aware of.
