Problem is; these can be perfectly legal businesses where they are from. Can't you all see how dangerous this is for the internet itself and all business on it? Seizing a .com domain from a European firm because they are not playing by the rules of some backwater state in the US of Abuse. No one elected them as police of the internet. If someone or a firm is suspected of wrong doing they can be investigated in their respective country and if found guilty they can be shut down. That is how we do things in a democracy. You see things are going horribly wrong in your country if people think they are above the rules of society. Specially if they are law enforcement.

This is probably the most awesome loophole I've seen so far. Because it's illegal in Maryland the whole world should be punished. This is equivalent to if Chinese restrictions would affect the entire world. ICE are getting smarter and their sense of logic is getting dumber.

Someone have to get the IP range of Maryland so we can ban the population from the Internet so once again we can get back to abusing the internet for gambling, downloading, prostitution and what else you may love.

I bet this is what pissed them off to begin with. It has nothing with illegal linking to do.. It's all about Maryland....the state of cookies, and abso-effing-lutely nothing else!

Gambling sites aren't a scam. Everyone in the industry knows that the big casino's don't want online gambling to take a cut of "their" profits. Online poker might return to the U.S. as soon as they find a way to justify it being run only by casino companies. The casinos are so fucken stupid that they didn't just jump on the online gambling bandwagon. Stupid as hell. so stupid they should shoot themselves in the face.

I, feel like we are missing something but I don't know what it is. I think this is a systematic desensitization scheme the government is doing. Systematic desensitizaiton is when you are exposed to a small thing and you do not mind it happening anymore, then it gets bigger and bigger and bigger until you are desensitized. Hmmm, I wonder, are these lobbiests trying to desensitize us to internet sensorship? We need to keep a lookout for that, in my opinion.

Wait, the stole domains of websites that are fully legal in their own country? Just because its against one states law?
So can other countries steal US domains because they violate their laws? I would love to see that happen to some us government sites.

“We cannot allow foreign website operators to flout the law simply because their headquarters are based outside the country.”

I'd guess the only part of their business that touched Maryland, or any other US state, was a customer's computer connected to their website abroad. So, I suspect US Attorney Rod Rosenstein is trying to expand the frontiers of US law outside US territory, backed as he is by some dubious district court rulings last year.

I think Thailand should fine every US driver for driving on the right side of the road. Thai law clearly states you should drive on the left. The logic seems the same to me.

Um, what part of them was in Maryland, exactly? Am I missing or misreading something, or did ICE just nuke those sites because they and Maryland exist on the same planet?
I don't care about gambling, but I could see the government getting one state to pass some draconian law and then using it as an excuse to nuke any company that competes with a well-paying lobbyist. They started seizing US-registered websites without waiting for COICA, why wouldn't they start seizing the rest of the world's websites without waiting for PROTECT IP?
