Very few of us, regardless of our personal ethics, have the necessary strength of character needed to put our entire careers at risk for someone else’s benefit, especially if the internal procedure is unlikely to have any effect and there’s every chance that the offending organisation will get found out anyway – as was indeed the case with ACS: Law.

I believe it’s the main reason why there aren’t substantial numbers of musicians and music technicians publicly and directly condemning the music labels and the BPI. I encourage my employers to behave with a measure of common sense, but publicly condemning them for things they do wrong would be economic suicide for me.

I don’t blame this paralegal at all for not putting themselves at risk, because in their shoes, I wouldn’t have done it either. It’s not a courageous way to behave, but it’s the honest truth of most of us. :/

Once that procedure is exhausted the person should then have terminated their employment followed by a claim for compensation on grounds of unfair dismissal for reason of breach of contract (ie constructive dismissal).
Also lodging a formal complaint with the Law Society for witnessing unethical standards of performance by the Company who then failed to rectify them after exhaustion of the Grievance Procedure..

Whoever it is, needs a lesson in ethics themselves.
