And shift it to any other device i like, re-encoding it to use a less demanding codec if necessary. And to be able to play it as many times as i like. And to keep a copy of the file locally without having to download some authentication token in case i’m ever offline (or more likely the DRM provider has gone bust). And streaming? No thanks, not until you stick an optical fibre straight into the house and we get speeds in the hundreds of mbps.

I have loads of DVDs, CDs (and VHS/Audio tapes and Vinyl for that matter), and some HD-DVD’s, Blu-Rays, so i’ve paid into the system plenty – and in this case the other half has a sky subscription. GoT is ‘recorded’ on the sky box, but stuck there. Yup, there’s an on demand service if i ‘missed’ it, but downloads self-destruct after a while – which means i keep on having to pay sky to retain access. It’s a shame HD-DVD didn’t catch on, that I can at least partially watch on Linux.

How the hell did Steve Jobs ever manage to get the music industry to allow DRM free downloads from iTunes? The same precedent does not exist for video. CD Ripping software (like iTunes)? No problem. DVD Ripping software like Real Jukebox? Sued.

(PS Does anyone know where one can get copies of ‘Thronecast’ from? It might seem like fluff but helps to explain the episodes)

Games of Thrones- or any show, movie, CD, or game- is art, and I don’t mind paying for art, it’s the ads, and the marketing, and the pocket padding I don’t do. The obsession with money in this world is the whole problem to begin with. The World Wide Web is for sharing information, so please get off your high horse and understand we’re not hoodlums.
