I’ve watched 4 GoT episodes now and I’m still liking it. Subject to change, of course. Perhaps its continued popularity in the 4th season is a good omen.

I’ve watched the first 2 episodes of the 1st season.

Where to begin?
With the obvious answer: I like it!

The South Park characterization might be right at some point (future episodes and such), but so far it really is a good show. While it’s fantasy, it is believable — the production values and dialog make the setting and story interesting. The show is good to look at. The sets and settings are beautifully done as is the videography itself (or should that be ‘cinematography?’).

My initial comparison would be with the Mel Gibson movie, “Braveheart.” I say that because of all the douchebaggery, skullduggery, back-stabbing machinations of the royals. No clear heroic figure is defined at this point (2 episodes), but the bad guys are as apparent as those in the Harry Potter franchise. I say there aren’t any standout heroic figures due to the fact that a lot of story-telling in movies these days will lead you on and then surprise you. Most are not so surprising and it can be expected. I’m not certain which way things will go at this point and it could be that even the likeable people in this story may turn out to be assholes.

There will probably be dragons in this show because there are some alleged petrified dragon eggs. If that turns out to be true, then I hope HBO does a better job with the necessary CGI than the SyFy network schlock.

At this point, I’m hooked and will watch it. That is, I will watch it until it does something totally stupid. I hope it doesn’t do that. It’s been a while since I’ve watched a show which makes me care about seeing the next episode. “Person of Interest” is the only current TV show which gives me good reasons to care. Before that, it was “Fringe.” The novelty of “Lost” was lost on me at the end of the first season. Seeing the finale of that show made me glad that I gave up on it early.

Okay, back to GoT. There is some nudity and sex. So far it is relevant to the storyline, so I’m not going to complain that it is gratuitous. There is an abundance of blood, but it too, is necessary to the credibility of the story. If heads getting lopped off is not your thing, then GoT is not for you.

Long story short: I’m going to keep watching. My present position is that if the show maintains what I’ve seen so far, then it means I’m hooked. [He said with fingers crossed]
