Same here. I was a long time Diamond account customer for many years (5+), but canceled my account back in April. Could no longer justify spending $29 a month for a service that rendered NOTHING. And their VPN service, which was the last reason I was holding on to Giganews, will give you up in a heartbeat! Just as their DumpTruck service also falls short of Mega. There’s just no more reason for Giganews to exist.

The reason they have the 5 year retention is all of the DMCA take downs have made large amounts of space available. Now to use this as a marketing tool is pretty bad.

I WAS a long time Giganews customer for years but I canceled my account on June 1 because of the fact that whenever I would go to download something this year from a binary newsgroup on giganews.com servers either the files were incomplete or corrupted to the point that the Par2 recovery files couldn’t repair the archives. Well I know for a fact that certain usenet users generally do not waste their time to upload something that is incomplete or corrupt. The fact is what good is 5 years of binary retention IF the binaries are incomplete or corrupted??? They are good for NOTHING!!! I think that sooner or later certain people are going to grow tired of the bullshit and F’N assholes like Joe Morganelli and his associates at the Morganelli Group are going to be taken the fuck out completely. IF the price was right I know some Italian guys who would think about ridding the world of his piece of shit punk ass.
