Advertising revenue is indeed just a side benefit. The primary benefit is cheap and effective data collection.

Yea, you can keep saying that all you want. I’m still not hearing any solid logic. Plugging your ears and saying “nuh-uh, it’s for teh guvment” does nothing to address my points or to make a logical argument for why or how this would be the case.

“Side benefit” so what’s the PRIMARY benefit? Google doesn’t receive money when the NSA subpoena’s information. NO ONE gets money from subpoena’d information. That’s the POINT of a subpoena-you’re legally required to fork it over.

You can keep saying “ZOMG NSA” all you want, but until you can provide an actual, objective rational for how Google benefits from this, for WHY this would motivate a corporation, you’ve got nothing.

Its for the NSA mostly, PRISM started in 2007 if I remember, that’s before the real name policy, I believe advertisers are just a side-benefit of the scheme.
