That's not necessarily true, holding up copyrights is also a necessary method to preserve a technological advantage. Misuse of a system by a few does not invalidate the system for the purpose it was established to protect. Further you can't really say it has "cost the economy" if and when it is a US company being sued for their profit from stealing intellectual property, nor if the US company is the plaintiff who wins a suit.

The suits can only exist because the tech does. There's nothing to "move overseas", any country was already able to do their own work to establish tech. Ideas unlike manufacturing can be produced anywhere.

Hrmph! As usual, the MPAA and its fudge-packing, money-grubbing, douche-bag, butt-buddy cronies think that everything is all about them and their crappy, low-quality media content garbage.

They are so arrogant and self-centered that they can’t even conceive that some people might actually use a cloud-storage service to store personal, non-Hollywood-trash files.

As for their claim that >90% of the files on Hotfile are copyrighted, I’d like to know how they hell they came up with that metric. Did they hack the site and enumerate all files? Or more likely, they just do a URL search for “hotfile.com” on some piracy site and confirm their (idiotically obvious) conclusion that most of the bootleg links they searched for were indeed to bootleg files (and to their shock 10% were not).

This is why I hate cloud storage and will not be as successful as they want. They want people to put stuff on the "cloud" legal or not so they can come in and say that X site is hosting legal stuff and shut it down. Thus you loose your stuff. Legal or not. I feel bad for those that actually paid subscription services and are legit. With the money they spent, you are better off buying a NAS and building your own home made storage. It's what I have. If I'm out and about and need to upload, it goes directly to my home server.
If that is not feasible heck just buy yourself a wireless small external drive and keep it with you in a bag or something. That way you can always transfer and upload within your network with friends you know.
Btw anyone remember the online storage site back in the early 2000 that also got shut down? I don't remember the name but I do know it being around for illegal file sharing.

These government idiots need to recognise that, it doesn't matter how many hosting sites they close down. It will not stop the piracy.

Its not the hosting/torrent sites that are uploading the pirated material , and even if all hosting/torrent sites got closed down, we will always find new methods to distribute pirated material.

I say we all start using skydrive for piracy and sit back and watch M$ burn :)
