As mentioned lower, it's part of the treaty. Details can be found here:
http://www.oas.org/juridico/mla/en/can/en_can-mla-gen-g8iag.html#_Toc79050600

Section 2.1:
Under the Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters Act, Canada may provide the following assistance:

      Seizing evidence by search warrant;
      Obtaining evidence through the execution of other warrants;

Canada was just going through the legal motions. The real question is, why is this even a criminal case in Sweden?

The Mounties are largely corrupt anyway so this doesn't surprise me; they haven't prosecuted the Harper government for all the voter suppression shit they pulled and are continuing to pull (scheduling Maritime byelections over this weekend, for example, when everyone's going to be off somewhere else watching fireworks and not voting).

Wow... looks like someone had a busy weekend on TF... and I'm not talking about the Mod..

I wonder if he got any satisfaction spending his whole weekend trying to spread his ill view of the world, only to be deleted with a few clicks... lost in time and space..

I would say what a blatant waste of time and resources... but he's an American, I expect nothing less...

I've been thinking about the possibility of a kind of SSL for applications. And not just some copy protection style obfuscation but actually a program that functions as if it was compiled for a different CPU every time it's run. Like: the instruction set varies based on where the code is in a binary image, and the mapping changes every time you upload the code. With the right kind of sandboxing, that could be very useful for secure cloud services of the onion (TOR/I2P for example) or hashkey (say, Freenet) varieties. You purchase resources provided by an ISP that only cares if you're DoSing someone since the sandbox prevents sending packets to the normal WWW. Yes, I know, DRM for freedom - I must be thinking wrong?!

I also thought of a new protocol like IP/ethernet layers using a hybrid between broadcast and UDP. You use those BTC mining chips to search for packets containing hashes that match yours. Although, I'm not sure if the ASICs are generic enough to allow the search for arbitrary patterns of hashes. As you can tell, it's just an idea; I've not even written one line of code. ;) The theoretic advantage is that you'd only get regional data about where a packet was going, and it's anti-spam because you have to pay for the computer able to generate the packets and a broadcast fee. Combine it with mesh networking and a VM-as-a-browser you at least have one more layer of privacy (in theory - the reality would have major bugs).

BTW, I wonder what that new attack on discrete logarithms is going to do for people depending on it for their security.
