On the internet, torrenting is like being Robin Hood, stealing from the rich (publishers asking $60 for a shitty game) and giving to the poor (people in other countries, people who can’t afford it, and some who are perhaps unethical). The developer will make money off the game no matter what, because enough people WILL but it, but those that don’t buy it, don’t feel robbed of 60 bucks for 5 hours of bad gameplay.

Not saying it’s right or wrong, either way, but it is kind of a different situation.

People who work in games take huge pride in the work they do. If the author of this article really wants to do something people will notice, gain some real technical skills and contribute to making a real game. Don’t try to catch a ride on our coat tails.

RE: The leak takes bread and butter from the mouths of the Devs. You can all get real.. Do you really, truthfully believe that the devs work on loyalties?? Are you insane? The devs are paid full-time salaries for their work. They receive bonuses based on success. Black Ops made record sales in 4 countries on release day (there are plenty of articles detailing this, so I won’t cite them here). The devs got paid, regardless….

The same principle applies to recording artists. Listen carefully kids: To make money as a recording artist you need a label. FACT. Why? Because you need to mass-produce, manufacture, market, distribute, advertise, promote etc… Therefore, the split between money in and money out is as such: Production: Artist: 0 money in (talent aside). Label: 100% money in. Sales: Artist: Small % (loyalties). Label: Lion’s share. Piracy (in it’s truest form) harms the LABEL/DISTRIBUTOR, not the creator. They are already rewarded for their efforts. This is why artists sign multi million $ CONTRACTS before they’ve recorded a single fart. The labels and the distributors reap the rewards later…
