The ideals are to prevent the complete erosion of privacy and innovation, as driven by the copyright and patent industries, by showing the world what other values are being lost in the process. As a result of this, culture will be shared, and knowledge will be free.

You don’t reach 4% in an election talking about Creative Commons and the GPL, no matter how strongly you feel about them. You do reach 4% talking about civil rights and democracy erosion, though.
