This slimy-ass law firm is standing on very shaky ground and is obviously just testing the waters in Canada while the Conservatives have their majority, and Bill C-32/ C-11 is presumably right around the corner from being implemented.

The problem with their foray into Canada is not only are we less controlled by the lobbyists, but we actually believe in appropriate penalties. Therefore, without the possibility of $150,000+ awards per infringement, as is the case in the US, the reward is not going to be worth the risk for these money-grubbing Yanks. That, and the fact that it has already been established in the Doe vs BMG case (2005), an IP address is NOT a person, and sharing a file from a ‘Shared’ folder, does not constitute willful infringement.
