People gonna be mad as hell if they hear we are going to fuck them.

This is what you get if these companies have no market competition. The price goes up (artificially). And people give you the finger and do it themselves for free.

@57:

Thanks for the link. Not to get comments to far OT, but what is your opinion on the JD spokesperson Matthew Miller's response to that stuff:

"If al-Aulaqi wishes to access our legal system, he should surrender to American authorities and return to the United States, where he will be held accountable for his actions."

I see the whole thing as a blurry cluster**** where a man believed to be in Yemen is added to the Most Wanted lists dead-or-alive, and because he happens to be an American citizen it shouldn't be allowed. Not that I disagree with the idea that our government is less-than-upfront about things, but our President can already hand out death sentences to supposed terrorists that aren't citizens of the USA. Foreign information is all gathered the same way, so shouldn't we be up in arms whenever anyone (citizen or not) gets added to the list?

"Then that really is a bigger problem than ISPs working with the RIAA/MPAA."

Yes, it is. They are merely one symptom of the overall problem.

"Can you get me a link for Obama’s proposed law?"

Here: http://www.salon.com/news/opinion/glenn_greenwald/2010/09/25/secrecy

"and the underlying problem here in the USA is that laws get passed and only get fought in the courts after they are used and a judge declares them invalid against the BoR"

I think another underlying problem is the fact that money is basically looked at as all-important and people will bend to the will of another go get more. Politicians and judges are no exception to this, and never will be. Paying off every citizen, however, would be much more difficult.

"What we need is balance. Not too much power for the majority and not too much power for the government. That would probably rid us of at least some of this blatant corruption."

Then that really is a bigger problem than ISPs working with the RIAA/MPAA.

"They already have. Patriot Act, free speech zones, ACTA, DMCA, and Obama wanted to pass a law that would enable him to order the execution of private citizens if they were suspected to be terrorists."

Can you get me a link for Obama's proposed law?

I am familiar with the rest of those, and the underlying problem here in the USA is that laws get passed and only get fought in the courts after they are used and a judge declares them invalid against the BoR (such as Brandon Mayfield and Sneak and Peek provisions, as well as several other provisions in the Patriot Act).

@39... Ireland's citizens are more secular than nations like Italy, Poland, Greece, Romania, Cyprus, Malta and Turkey.

It's been a real country longer than the USA, so it is impossible for it to be deemed a colony of the USA and the majority of those holding dual citizenship actually reside in the US.

You're just not very good with facts, are you?

Morons must cringe when other people call you a "moron", it sullies their name.

No, the current government is the representative of the rich. The people have far too little power. So much so that the government is actually able to make huge decisions without their consent, which as we have seen, is bad.

What we need is balance. Not too much power for the majority and not too much power for the government. That would probably rid us of at least some of this blatant corruption.

"but here in the USA I wouldn’t see an issue until one or more of these parties was stomping on the Bill of Rights (Freedom of Speech or something)."

They already have. Patriot Act, free speech zones, ACTA, DMCA, and Obama wanted to pass a law that would enable him to order the execution of private citizens if they were suspected to be terrorists (technically that isn't in effect, but it does show some of their corruption for even wanting that in the first place).
