I wasn't bored at all. Quite fascinating, really. We all play many roles in life. They all have as many similarities as differences. And who can say which one of them is "the real me"?

Only an amalgam of them all can be said to represent who we really are. And that can only be found at the end of our life's course. Sometimes the roles that take precedent over many others only come much later in life.

In the early '80s I blew right past "Official Asshole" at ludicrous speed and into that void known as the BGI Zone. Batshit, Grabastic Insane. No one should enter the BGI Zone...no one. Few come out unaltered.

While in that zone I managed to earn myself a lifetime ban from all of AOL for "conduct unbecoming", and it truly was BGI unbecoming. Felonious, actually, but that shit storm never hit.

It was around the same time I got thrown out of Canada. How about that? Thrown out of AOL and Canada. Those achievements never made it to my resume.

I think this was in the period where I hadn't quite mastered my "sociopathic superpowers" yet and the train definitely left the tracks. Learning to restrain oneself is a good thing.

Being over-educated (more letters after my name than in my name, and my name is 11 letters long) is not necessarily a good thing when combined with the certain personality traits I possess. It tends to make one assholic, and there's not a 12-step program for that. Drinking helps.

You appear to be more highly educated than you let on here but bear a different spectrum of personality traits than I, though with some overlap. A generally better one, I suspect. Good for you!

We both made it through early and middle age relatively unscathed, both married with children and enjoying what future we have left and with plenty of stories to tell and "witty (shitty?) repartee" in which to engage

Out 40th wedding anniversary is coming up next year. I think another trip to Australia is in order. We climbed Ayer's Rock the last time we went there (never do that again!). More hiking in the Blue Mountains and elsewhere and Great Barrier Reef diving will be done.

Live is good for both of us. Enjoy!

Shit!

Now I need to Google "preterite" -- it's one I'm not familiar with, or have forgotten. More than likely, the latter.

I was an "Official Asshole" on Usenet back in the 90s -- but that was part of something of which I created and enjoyed. Just Google "Official Assholes of A.B.P.E." and you will find out my "real identity." It should be in the very first item in the search which comes up. :-)

That being said, there was a certain 'value' in what I did back then, but over time it became needless. The Internet evolved to compensate. Not for me, but for the 'thing' itself.

When you reach a certain age (as you're obviously already aware), things like that are virtually worthless. It's not like anyone could do something with the info anyway. There is more than one person in my area with the name and if anyone went to the trouble of finding me, well...let's just say they would be on a 'wild goose chase,' more or less. Heh.

See? You're worth talking to, and as "generally harmless" as you may be at times, like you, I'm 'safely put away' except when I actually get agitated by something of which I know better -- then I can be a bulldog on someone and won't let go until they're dead.

A real asshole, in other words. :-)

EDIT: The fucking MIT list at https://stuff.mit.edu/afs/sipb/user/marthag/News/net.legends.faq.4 has been expurgated.

The actual real, complete listing can be found here:
http://vvv.ctrl-c.liu.se/~ingvar/legends/lesser.html

It gives the complete 'asshole' story along with another tidbit or two left out of the MIT list.

Who "I am" and who "I play" at being are different things at different times. I actually helped with one of the earlier Internet RFCs believe it, or not. Giving this information out here means next-to-nothing, because very few people will ever read this, or even believe it. It's something I don't care about at this point. Why reveal now? I don't know. It's just something I feel compelled to do. Playing 'dumb' about things is part of my current reputation, such as it is.

Who "I am" will remain a mystery until after I'm gone and it won't matter at that time any more than it does now.

I've learned a lot being online over these many years. Most of it is about human nature, I guess. I haven't really learned much about myself, just a little. People never really change and I am still pretty much the same person today as I was 30 years ago. At least I think so.

And so, as you can see from the things I've done here today at TorrenFreak, they are nothing more than a way for me to complete a circle of sorts. I played a role in A.B.P.E. and I'm playing a role here. I've played lots of roles online -- all of them similar. It's still me, being me, but a 'me" which is not unlike the real thing. If that makes any sense. I wouldn't consider any of those roles to be a lie. Just a convenience which arose out of necessity. Footprints online can be followed, so I try to make very, very light footprints. :-)

I hope it doesn't mean that I'm going to be completing circles of another sort any time soon, or "mortal coils" so-to-speak.

EDIT #2: On the list there you will see a 'Brad Templeton." I mention him because I was embroiled in copyright controversies with him (and others) due to those things which we posted there on A.B.P.E. (naughty, naughty, naughty pics) from various and sundry sources. The most vocal opponents being Playboy Magazine and Brad Templeton.

Now you know why TorrentFreak interests me. :-P
-=-
Well, this was certainly a long and unexpected spiel. My apologies for probably boring the shit out of you with things of no import and of little sense.
