They had a better case for primary infringement than they have for secondary so this could well be a case that the MPAA loses. But when you consider how much damage has already been done to Hotfile since the court case, the verdict becomes somewhat irrelevant.

I think you hit the nail right on the head there with what you just said. I really despise that upgrade policy Apple has. "Oh hey, buy a new iPhone if you want these features and whatnot." If you can upgrade an HTC Hero (which came with Android 1.5) to Android 2.3.4 (Cyanogenmod), how can you not upgrade the first iPhone to iOS 4.3.3? It doesn't make sense. Unless of course you just want a buck. And there are way too many people who do just that, buy a new one rather than demand proper upgrades/updates.

It gets thrown around but I think it's right. Apple's 1984 commercial is a great example of how far Apple has come. They went from being different and not Big Brother-like to just the opposite. Apple products now aren't different. They all look alike from one iteration to the next, and while it is a nice design, it's just sad to see no innovation. And this whole "you will use our products how we allow you to use them" thing reeks of Big Brother-like thinking.

As I said, Apple's control freak nature is what makes me steer as many as I can away from their products. For the money there are plenty of better options in regards to computers and cell phones (IMO).

We'll see how they make out though. Steve Jobs ill health is definitely not doing Apple good. And I think some are slowly starting to realize how Apple's become. I think the, "buy a new one" thing is slowly starting to snap people out of their "Apple is the best" haze.

Yeah Apple is so big now they are getting like MS in the 90's. Gone are the days Apple was a hobbysits company.

On Steve Jobs he is very ill and I would not think live much longer. Transplant patients have a very high morbidity rate at his age. So there may be a change there soon. Stock price will plumet when this happens be ready to buy up lol.

I think Steve Jobs was one of the most outstanding businessmen in tech of his generation but he has now steered Apple to a very hardcore corporate control area. They have a very poor upgrade policy - buy a new one. That is not hobbyist anymore.

Even the graphic designers, apples bread and butter, are looking to cut costs and are finally touching base with Linux. Adobe Apple are literally out of control on pricing to feed the dividend monster of lazy middlemen who do no work but try to use money to make money.

In fact I am sick of file hosting services making money of copyrighted material.

That's true Crash. But the thing is, I don't think it's strictly that. It's the lies and manipulation thrust upon them by the corporations (Apple, HP, Sony, RIAA/MPAA, etc.) that make them think they need to be protected, because they haven't got a clue themselves.

I get called a "hacker" on a routine basis because I fix computers and actually know how to use them for more than just facebook and e-mail checking. Which bothers me because people just assume I'm going to actually hack their e-mail accounts and steal their info to their bank accounts and whatnot. Why do they think that? Because of the news and what they're told through movies and television and various other sources.

So what do I do? I inform them I'm not that kind of "hacker". Nor do I consider myself a hacker at all. I'm just a guy who loves technology and likes knowing how to repair the devices I use on a daily basis. I like learning about things I don't know. And I'm not up to no good when I say "man, you're computer is severely jacked and running slow, let me work my magic and get this baby running like new again". Like that, they better understand me and in the process I also teach them about their own devices. I know plenty of non-techies who can now safely and responsibly use their devices because of what I've shown them. I don't get phone calls/text messages/e-mails on a daily basis from people saying, "I think I f*cked up my computer/cell phone/tablet/etc. Please come fix it."

Just spread the word. Share your knowledge. Be it about fixing computers, rooting cell phones, etc. Tell them about the movie industry and how they're stuck in the past. How some countries are ignored by iTunes/Netflix/etc. and so deprived of a legal means of enjoying their products, resort to file sharing. Tell them ISPs are now about to (or have already begun) to monitor what they do online, because in the eyes of the industries, they're all criminals. If the government has to get a warrant to tap your phones/get access to your online history, why then are these industries able to do the same thing sans said warrant? Isn't that a violation of their (the people's) rights? Yes it is. Make them aware about these things.

Inform people. It's our duty and responsibility to do so. Otherwise, we'll always be seen as criminals and thieves and whatnot, and labeled as such, even if we aren't. Because we aren't spreading the truth and knowledge. Meanwhile, the industries will spew their manipulative deceitful lies and continue to influence people and pretty much brainwash them to their way of thinking. We have to fight back. And not necessarily through violence and riots and that kind of thing or by hiding (let the trolls think that's what we do and those are our only options). Let's fight back with the most powerful weapon of all. Knowledge. Cause like the saying goes, "A little knowledge is a dangerous thing."
