It's so precious how you start invoking fear by comparing perceived trends in modern society to newspeak in 1984, and then proceed in advocating using that exact strategy of changing existing language to suit your own agenda and removing words & established termilogy you recognise as unfavorable to your position from the dialogue. The hipocracy would be terrifying if it wasn't so juvenile.

The UK Government in attempting to CENSOR P2P SHARING sites, in fact DEPRIVES very many unsigned bands and unsigned artists of a LEGITIMATE OUTLET. The relatively few signed artists are VASTLY OUTNUMBERED by unsigned artists whose FREEDOM and HUMAN RIGHTS are being ATTACKED by the UK Government AT THE BEHEST of VASTLY RICH INTERNATIONAL MEDIA CONGLOMERATES. How long can we PUT UP with CORPORATE INTERVENTION in DOMESTIC MATTERS. It MATTERS a great deal that SO MANY unsigned artists are PREVENTED from SHARING their music and culture with MILLIONS of UK CITIZENS, who ALSO HAVE RIGHTS over and above CORPORATE MONSTERS.

Its funny because I began a while ago giving up on spelling those words correctly. And it resulted in this :

Copyright   -> Crappyright
Patent        -> Paturds
Trademark -> Trollmark
DMCA -> Diabolical Mean of Creative Appropriation
WIPO -> World Illuminati Personification Organization

But, I think your alternatives sound less childish XD

However, I think I prefer the term from "Against Intellectual Monopolies" for IP. Intellectual Privilege.

Because, its really a favor from the people and government, its not a property. Given that I never had to keep people from starring at my dinning table to avoid people from magically "stealing" it even though its still there.. Nor I had to harass people that built a table the same way as mine, or added extra stuff on it..

I also never had to force everybody to comply and give up their rights for a holder, who probably will never return the favor, or ever let his stuff go into the public domain so it can be properly consumed.. Its a one way street, so its a privilege alright !

Plus, one weird thing I noticed, is how the average person seems to care only about the authorship of their stuff. Not with the "right" to copy. And of course distributing copies for money.

Its big companies that really do care about that, and believe in IP as
if it was a religion.. They believe in it because it makes sense to them, but also because they've never seen it fail. Even though they've never seen it work concretely either.. That belief is therefore based on a logical fallacy, and a false sense of security that comes at a big price for everyone else..

The average artist posting his stuff on the web just wants recognition for his work, and also that if someone wants to pay them or do business with them they can find out easily how to reach them.

Then there's art "theft", which sometime isn't art theft at all depending on the situation. Real art "theft" is when someone put his name on someone else's work to reap benefits and essentially lie and pollute the flow of information.

Something that's not art "theft" is hosting a copy of the art on your blog with accurate credits.. Even if the author doesn't get as much view, it just means that people aren't interested in seeing anything else than the picture, they don't wanna do business..

But some people are just extremely anal and protective about it. Even though, just by human error its possible their art will land somewhere else.. That's a direct consequence of seeing everyone as a potential "thief". Then use misguided content hosts' technical support to enforce their will. Or the "metaphorical guns for everyone" law aka DMCA..

I think we should start calling copyright monopolists, terrorists, or mobsters, con artists, extortioner.. Given how they use scare tactics, operate underground, corrupt people, extort people to get what they want and etc..

Copyright law is BS, being driven by the people with the money to create laws to support their greed. And unfortunately, people are collectively stupid enough to not only buy into it, but defend it as well. When a copyright can last beyond a person's lifetime, when a corporation's copyright can last for, in essence, eternity, we have a problem. What have to public domain? What happened to creative works being create for the betterment of society as a whole, not to line pockets? It's disgusting and disturbing the direction we're going in. And can I add, people need to be realistic about the world we live in, there is no such thing as an original thought anymore. Everything that's done now is derived from something someone else already did in the past. So the term 'intellectual property' is a bit absurd. Nothing's going to change, though. It's the law and laws are never stupid in the minds of the simple-minded. They just blindly follow and defend no matter how wrong.
