Copyright protection is for big capital, not content creators like you. To enforce copyright you have to have money for lawyers, so this ensures that copyright laws exist and are enforced only for the ruling classes.

Might as well sue the librarys for letting us borrow these kinds of educational books from them. Hell we can go to some librarys and copy books with copy machines. So lets take them down for that too. It is just rediculas. Like the movie and music industries, the book industries don’t seem to realize their method of buisness is dieing. Though I will admit I prefer reading the actual book. But sometimes if I can’t get the book or the library doesn’t have it, getting some to read online isn’t a bad idea. I read and then usually delete it.

This could just be a case of going after the company to get an easy win being as the company is dead and not likely going to put up a fight against so that a win ruling can be used as a case against other company cases in the future.

I don’t see the point of this when HotFile is a dead company so they are only breaking the rule of “never flog a dead horse”. No matter the Court outcome, even if HotFile does not get involved (which is not a good plan), then they won’t even get $1 out of this.

That is even if HotFile has some money left which would have been passed through shell companies into a new venture,

Probably. I won’t out myself but the book was for a very well known open source program and the information was written in a support wiki by me and three other regulars for this software. The author in question reached out to us via emails to basically ask us to write her book for her and three of us pointed her to the wiki. (The fourth one ignored her.) While the information is easily found online, it was licensed as open content with the requirement that it be referenced.

*shrug* What worse is that we’ve been accused of ripped her off from her book a couple of times.
