Psychologically it all makes sense. People who aren’t happy just being alive need another purpose. When doing good deeds alone isn’t enough to make you feel happy, someone comes along and says, if you do good deeds, you may not be happy now, but you’ll be happy for eternity after your dead. I applaud the effort, and its general end result. Morons spend time doing good deeds to get into heaven instead of spending their time trying to figure out how to steal someone else’s money to make them happy now. Most people lack a general sense of logic, so why not give them whatever reason is necessary to get them to function within a modern society?

Lots of people condemn religion for its historical cause of conflict and death, but do we really know things would be better without religion? I think without it, people would still find plenty of ways to kill each other. At least with religion, SOME people are tricked into finding reasons not to. Those who NEED religion are usually those drawn to it because they also need a “purpose” to hold on to. Not everyone needs that.

the quality of different types of schools is different depending on where you’re located. In many places the only alternative to a really shitty public school is a less shitty catholic school.

I think the ratios would be very much the same as those found in torrents, particularly those found on TPB. There’s a small percentage of legal material but the vast majority is illegal.
