"Resell Online Videos Would Kill Innovation"

A corporate stranglehold and manipulation of access to information also kills innovation.

Innovation isn't what they care about.
Isn't it hollywood who keeps pumping out remakes, reboots, sequels and prequels?
They want control.

Corporations hate innovation unless they can own it and control it. And if it increases the profit to do so,
suppress it.

We all remember the Detroit versus the Tucker right?

*sigh*

"Intellectual property" is a legal fiction. Having more rules to govern how we have to treat non-property as property is just going to further confuse the issue.

Eliminate IP laws and you don't need to have a conversation about reselling licenses of IP. Jesus, so fucking stupid. IDWTLOTPA

If items such as digital films and comic books were cheaper than their hard copies, folks wouldn't be so adamant about wanting to resell. The digital copy is as much or sometimes even more than the physical.

Ridiculous business model...

Actually, electronic certificates are simple enough to implement (and can even be anonymous), and would ensure that only one copy could be sold with the certificate. Further copies would have to be sold without a certificate, just like pirated copies already are. Of course, the original owner would be able to keep a copy, but when was that ever not the case? This copy would be like any pirated copy, and have no certificate.

Allowing resale with certificates wouldn't make anything easier for the pirates, but would make things easier for those who want to buy and sell legally.

Electronic certificates even make sense without resale being allowed. It
would allow owners to document their legitimate ownership, and make the
absence of a certificate relevant as substantiation of accusations of illegitimate possession (evidence of copyright infringement).

So, MP3s don't deteriorate with time. Neither do diamonds, and neither does gold. I'm sure gold mines would see a magnificent rise in profits, if the resale of gold was banned. Diamond dealers and gold smiths would be in heaven, if it was illegal to buy and sell old jewelry.

Of course the entertainment industry wants to ban resale. The furnuture industry would like to ban resale. The car industry. Appliance manufacturers. Shipyards. Apart from producers of quickly perishable goods, I really can't think of any industry that wouldn't love this.

When will these guys learn the difference between "making a ton of money with minimal effort" and "creativity, innovation, and consumer choices"? While I do admit that their many attempts to screw the consumers do demonstrate some creativity and innovation, it's really not the kind of creativity anyone, other than the crooks themselves, would want to preserve, and it certainly doesn't result in more consumer choices.

This is why money shouldn't be allowed to write law.

It is the 21st century is it not? why does the MPAA still exist? it serves no purpose. They don't produce anything, they don't do anything. They are not needed. All they do is make money from just existing. Time for this dinosaur to die.
