The MPAA has a 100 percent foolproof way of making it impossible for recording a movie in a theater but they don’t use it. How? Have you ever pointed your TV remote control at your camcorder or smarphone camera and pressed the button? The camera will pick up the infrared light from the remote and display it as a white light. If a movie theater mounted a few high intensity infrared LED’s around the movie screen it would render the movie unrecordable (just a blob of white light), but would look perfectly normal to human eyes. People have been mounting infrared LED’s to the brims of hats so their faces will be cloaked from video surveillance cameras. Infrared is invisible to humans but really screws with all digital cameras.

Unlike a lot of commenters who brag about not going to the movies and pirate everything, I have actually gone to the movies MORE than I have in previous years, I’ll pirate a TV show if I can’t DVR it, which is what I only do with one show, and who wants to hold their arm up for two and a half hours to record a movie on their phone?
