Based on the code analysis of IMTDb above, this application raises the red flags of spyware + honeytrap.

The extraneous information it spies from your machine will positively identify which actual physical computer behind a router, firewall or proxy performed a certain download.

In a worst case scenario, this could result in lists of offending machines being passed to or maintained by government on behalf of MAFIAA, so when your laptop is scanned at a digital-check-point (e.g. home, school or border raid)
it will instantly appear on the 'no-fly' list and the owner be streamed for persecution.

In court the spydata will provide additional evidence to underwrite the prosecution case against the filesharer.

All of which sounds like something Tim Kuik of BRIEN might heartily recommend.

Therefore, Pirates, steer clear, its a trap!

You wanna generate an UID ?

UUID.randomUUID();

1 line of code. Does not contain any sensible information. Chances to generate twice the same UUID are -small-

From wikipedia :"
In other words, only after generating 1 billion UUIDs every second for the next 100 years, the probability of creating just one duplicate would be about 50%. The probability of one duplicate would be about 50% if every person on earth owns 600 million UUIDs."

So they why bother getting my mobo ID (with a windows only vbs script). I mean a VBS script ??!!. Once again : a VBS script.

Oh but wait ? They are not done. They need my Hard drive ID too. (Like if the mobo SN is not already a sufficient Unique identifier). Common, not a vbs again ? Well vbs it is.

Cool they are done. -_-

Just kidding, they want my mac adress too.

All that code is public and can therefore be accessed from anywhere in the app. They made Azureus windows only with some vbs code. All of that for what ? Generate a "uid" ?

Common you are not serious. Two possibilities :
1) They just don't know anything about programming (type "generate uid java" and the first results links to the UUID class I presented).
2) They really want to access these informations.

I would be like amazed that they achieved to code such a program without knowing at least a bit of java.

"Open Source" does not mean "safe" it does mean: you can look at how it is programmed. And all I can see is that they wanna access informations they don't need to know to have their program run.

to IMTDb

If you are so cool hacker, tell me what they do with mother board SN, MAC and other ???
I can tell you what they do!
They only generate ID for soft, for access to catalog of movies, and don't send to anyway your data.
It's open source and you can check it, before writing this paranoid comment
