1. When you buy a movie/cd/vinyl you are not buying a piece of plastic you are buying the right to listen to or view the music or movie contained in that ‘plastic’ packaging.
Having over the years bought many LPs made from poor quality recycled vinyl, original movies recorded on cheap VHS tape and bought CDs that we were told would last forever. I suggest therefore that I have a right to obtain free of charge from wherever I can ‘clean’ (digital) updates of music and movies I have already purchased. Oink was an excellent source for many of the more obscure 1960s and 1970s music already in my collection and also for many no longer available elsewhere.

2. Avoiding Music and Movie business hype.
Having listened many times to the man with the deep voice telling me to go buy/see the latest comedy/adventure/blockbuster and been sadly disappointed that I have wasted my money on a load of crap. I can now dl a reasonable copy, watch it and then if I enjoy it I can go buy it. Many of my DVDs and CDs in my collection are as a result of this.

3. I don’t have to listen to the radio and the inane ramblings of DJs.
I could dl music via sites like Oink check it out and if I like it go buy it. Many of my CDs and movies I would not have bought had I not downloaded them first

Maybe when the record and movie industry’s massive piles of cash have dwindled enough for them to see over them to the real world they may begin to understand the meaning of the word ‘progress’.
