Hopefully CCNx will move forward, bringing us a (Content Centric) Named Data Network that will allow Browsers and Media Players to locate and cooperatively stream files based on content rather than location.

Servers are so 20th Century.
The Cloud should not depend entirely on servers.
Peer distribution that avoids TCP/UTP overhead is definitely the way media will disseminate in the near future. Why search a web site to find a link to stream a file, when the peer cloud can be searched directly at the network layer and locate the file on any/all peers based upon it's packet and file hashes?

MPC is nice but it doesn't (and is not intended to) offer the end-to-end video solution that VLC does.

Not only is VLC an easy one-stop solution for Grandpas to play files without understanding codecs, it's also got powerful real-time video tools like a Video Wall filter, bi-directional streaming support, remote control, etc all built in.

I use MPC 90% of the time. When I need to do something fancy, I use VLC.

"Seeding is not really compatible with streaming at all."

In what way or manner would streaming be incompatible with the general bittorrent protocol?

Go on, bobmail - I invite you astonish us all with the technical and fully covering explanation to that casually dropped and powerful statement.

Or will you - apparently for the first time, according to what you said earlier - skirt the issue instead?

Or could it be that as usual you don't have a fucking clue what you just said but felt compelled to make a show of sounding as if you did. Just like you usually do a few minutes before you get epically smacked down?

I think they must have said "Ah, ok, let's just make a best-effort to fit it with the mac. The Apple jerks would use Jobsware even if it forced them to live a high-voltage circuit with their testes every time they tried to start it."

"No issues skirted."

As in "I don't have to explain to anyone who actually calls me on my bullshit"? To date you have actually decided to skirt every issue on which you felt compelled to comment but was met by a storm of factual refutal.

Oh, wait...that was when you actually stopped trying and settled for calling people bad names instead of even trying to counter verifiable facts?

"You may not like the answers, they may not conform to your world view, but the answers are all there..."

If by that you mean recorded history and the world I see when I look out the window, then yes. The Answers are all there.

Which still doesn't answer why every time you feel inclined to comment, you deny at least one obviously verifiable fact. Or spend half a thread ranting about how a game developer is playing us when said developer proves to be an active participant in the thread.

"It's just too bad that you choose to discuss "trolling" (a word used in many places to identify people who don't agree with you), rather than the story."

That may be because every time we discuss a story, you decide to troll. As in the dictionary definition of "trolling" which roughly means you spend your time here on TF mainly lying through your teeth about every issue in which you choose to comment.

"Sort of makes you and a few others into the trolls..."

Now if the definition "A troll is someone who does not agree with you" were true, then for you that might be true.

The rest of us go by the definition that someone who spends their time lying on a forum board is the troll. And that, to everyone around here, would be none other than your own low self.

Either that, or you'd have to be pegged as clinically insane. Care to be reminded just how many times by now you have been caught lying up front, even about issues where you've previously held an opposite view?

But by all means keep it up, bobmail. By this time you offer even more entertainment than our sadly departed "Anon". And for much the same reasons.

It's especially amusing when you try to claim you know a topic well - such as IT - with a smattering of googled knowledge and no understanding, while standing in a forum packed to the rafters with tech geeks.
