What if after receiving the payment, I immediately transfer my funds to my bank so there’s not much money left at my paypal account if they freeze my account? Is this possible?
Am I violating paypal’s TOS? Will they ask me to pay them if they freeze my account?

Even if I buy 10 copies of a DVD, I still can’t get it without digital rights management, which means to watching it on my iPod, iPhone, Android, TV, network media player, netbook, or anything other than a DVD player.

The value of a BitCoin is a bit too unstable for my liking. I hate PayPal (got screwed as a buyer, they refused to refund the full price of the iPod that I bought on eBay that was never sent and the buyer never replied or sent a tracking number), despite both eBay and PayPal’s guarantees. The did’t go after them and didn’t cover the amount that I had paid (they gave me the ~$20 balance from the seller’s account). I would have been protected if I had paid by VISA, AmEx, Discover, or MasterCard. However, we need something tied to a dollar and more stable, like PayPal, but without the “high-horse”.

CHEAPER??? itunes increased their prices for music by THIRTY PERCENT a few years back, from $0.99 to $1.29 per song. CDs are roughly the same price. People have less disposable income.

Malware? Maybe from Limewire, but I’ve never had a problem with BitTorrent. I download from trusted sources, which is a necessity. Plus, once a torrent file is created, it can not get a virus (although a virus could be embedded when the torrent is created, which is why we download from trusted sources and use up-to-date antivirus software) because the files cannot be changed without altering their hash, which causes the torrent program to reject that piece of the file. BitTorrent was designed to avoid the common problems associated with prior file-sharing programs.

Artists make next to nothing from commercially produced albums. The record labels take ~90%. Plus, BitTorrent has LEGAL uses.

Theoretical question: Consumer purchases a DVD of, say, Titanic. The CD is scratched or gets scratched and there is no way to get it replaced for anything less than full price. Consumer has already paid for a license to privately view the movie. Consumer borrows a friend’s copy of Titanic and makes a copy to use in the place of their damaged Titanic DVD. Who does this hurt? WHat is wrong with that?

I personally release my self-produced content through BitTorrent. Everyone who downloads my content is doing so 100% legally. Do you view them a basement-dwelling criminals?

What about movies & music that are no longer copyrighted?

What about movies or TV or music that are no longer available (or never available) on CD or DVD or any other commercially format?

I downloaded House in avi and watch it through my media player because I am bedbound from inoperable brainstem glioma (cancer) and can’t get up to switch the DVDs. I purchased the DVDs for every season. Am I a thief, despite paying for the license to watch the show commercial free and on demand when purchasing the CDs?

Fetty, BITTORRENT IS NOT ILLEGAL. Yes, it can be used illegally, but it itself is not illegal. Also, the service is NOT BitTorrent. It is a security service that is “BitTorrent-friendly”, which ONLY means that they do not specifically block BitTorrent, which again is 100% LEGAL. PLUS, PAYPAL IS NOT LAW ENFORCEMENT and has NO LEGAL AUTHORITY TO SEIZE ASSETS!!!

VPNs are NOT file sharing, they are a security service. It wasn’t their fraud department that froze the accounr, it was their PR department (PayPal’s BRAND risk management, managing risk to their brand, public relations). They have NO right to hold a dime hostage. Refusing to process future transactions is pushing the legitimacy of their authority, but they didn’t violate the terms of service. Their fees are so high already and now they’re committing theft.
