There is a difference though. Your TV is trying to do the interpolation in real time. These guys uploading torrents, on the other hand, can give a computer as much time as it needs to try to much more accurately blend between 2 frames.

The 50 gig Avatar 60 fps version floating around is gorgeous! The Star Trek is as well, but less so (it’s only 18 gig) and the Spider-Man one, quite frankly, isn’t worth the bother. It’s only 12 gig, though, which is the same as a 1080p rip, so you might as well go for that one. It looks a little better than the standard 24 fps 1080p.

What surprised me is that my WDTV Live Hub plays all without a hitch Watching it on my monitor is awesome, but seeing it on my HDTV is even better. Can’t wait until HFR becomes standard for every movie.

i can’t imagine that this will be achieved through interpolation. i think just like peter jackson, they will set up special cameras for the boxing event. Otherwise it would be really ridiculous, i’m totally on your side with that.

They werent faster, you are just not used to seeing things on film move more like they do in real life. Imagine how people felt going from the days of Keystone cops framerate and then to modern 24 fps. They all probably said the same stuff.

Except those frames don’t exist in reality, they are using algorithms to interpolate two images to create a new one in between frames. So what you are seeing isn’t real. So how exactly does that help you get a slo mo of the scene?

If something is filmed at a higher frame rate then yes you would get things like better slow mo shots. Most slow motion scenes are achieved by using high speed cameras and that is then played back at 24fps. But what these guys are doing with these torrents are artificially adding frames to give the illusion that its smoother. Just like the TV’s already do and its crap.

Yes and what these guys would have you believe is that what they did with these downloads is different than that, but they would be blowing smoke because it just isn’t true. If you want to watch films in the best possible way, past films that is, then 24 frames is the only way to see it as intended.

Whether a video frame rate will “scale up” or not doesn’t matter. The original material as shot on film or Digital wasn’t done at 48 fps. You are kidding your self if you think you can hit a switch and magically double the information in the original. This isnt a video game where a better video card will give you a better frame rates. Films are shot at a specific framerate 24fps and anything else is a lie. With the exception of very few films like the hobbit etc. You may like it but it doesn’t make it real.

Why are you bothering? The original bluray or the original 3D film neg was never produced in 48fps. So a TV that does this crap truemotion 240 hz etc is just as good at ruining the film with extra frames as some nerd in his basement is.

Only material originally produced at a higher frame frate will benefit from playing it at a higher frame rate. Any other outcome is artificial and fake.
