There is no evidence that the RIAA is taking a cut from this, as of now. iTunes says that 100% of proceeds go to charity. Either the RIAA or iTunes is lying with this statement – and if they are caught doing so, there would be serious legal fees they would need to pay.

Well the copyright was probably due to expire after 25 years, maybe this was really more to do with copyright extension than anything else?

Your analysis really puts this RIAA horsesh*t in perspective. $1 for every $100,000 – mostly because the RIAA didn’t care to market this or make it widely available (due to it not being profitable no doubt, as you also suggest.)
