Customer don't want DRM. At worst, there are customers who don't care about DRM.
The only ones who actively want DRM are the distributors. Then again, they don't want DRM, they want money and think DRM are necessary to get the money.

The best thing to do is to prove them wrong. Be interested in DRM, interest other people into DRM and all together avoid products with DRM. When I say this, I don't say "pirate these products" because that just give the industry more incentive to use DRM. Nastier ones if the current ones don't the job.

Also note that there is no "non-intrusive DRM". By definition, DRM are intrusive, but only some of them are visibly intrusive. And that's when most consumers get annoyed by them. Many people don't see the "Internet requirement" as a hassle, although it is. Most people don't see security or privacy issues with DRM, although there are numerous examples of these.

However, you say "people have a choice to use DRM". That's true for the industry. The consumers don't have a choice between a DRM product or a DRM-free product when they want a specific software. A game is released with or without DRM, and the consumer can only go with the editor's choice or avoid the game altogether. No way to have, say, a higher price for a DRM-free game.
Or actually there is often a choice to have a free DRM-free version. Not "legal", but still a tempting offer. The industry shouldn't be surprised to see so many potential customers go for these as long as they keep this antagonistic approach to their public.

"Fuck this guy for trying to prevent us from getting it for free! Who the fuck does he think he is.
