I had to download Cheers 8 ~ 11 since the DVDs were never released here in the UK (the last release was S7 nearly three years ago.)

I’ve also never understood why the BBC doesn’t allow for an international license fee, especially in Commonwealth countries like Australia, there’s enough ex-pats alone out there to make it a workable revenue stream.

What rights holders seem to miss entirely is that the internet is a global region of it’s own and not a reflection of geographical regions – adding IP blocks and the like just encourages people to find workarounds that mean the rights holders miss out on revenue.

On games, I can honestly say I’ve never pirated a game without first paying for a physical copy and the downloads were something I was forced into due to draconian DRM systems that twice caused me to have to rebuild my entire rig (looking at you EA and Ubisoft), the cracked versions were the only way I could play the game I’d already gone out and paid for!
