"The publisher will also confirm that Radiohead had made more
money before 'In Rainbows' was physically released than they made in
total on the previous album 'Hail To the Thief'."

Yes, via pre orders for the physical box sets etc.

The fact still remains though that it was such a "success" neither he, Radiohead nor Warner Chappell have bothered trying to repeat it as far as their collective endeavours go.

"As has been pointed out previously the bands digital income prior to licensing "In rainbows" was zero."

They had no prior digital income (no licensing to iTunes, etc.). "Hail to the Thief" came before "In Rainbows."

So, if that is true...

http://musically.com/2008/10/15/exclusive-warner-chappell-reveals-radioheads-in-rainbows-pot-of-gold/

From the above:
"Well, according to [Jane] Dyball (Warner Chappell's Head of Business Affairs) there were a total of three million album purchases including the box sets, CDs and all downloads including iTunes and pay-what-you-like downloads via their official site. That's an incredible number, given that their previous three albums sold in the low hundreds of thousands."

"The publisher will also confirm that Radiohead had made more money before 'In Rainbows' was physically released than they made in total on the previous album 'Hail To the Thief'."

As has been pointed out previously the bands digital income prior to licensing "In rainbows" was zero. Therefore even one sale was bound to make a "material difference" to Warner Chappell UK's digital income. It was a failure from that perspective.

With buyers in some cases ponying up 10c with card processing fees of 65c per transaction it was costing them 55c to sell the album. That is why neither they, Thom Yorke as a solo artist nor Warner Chappell have repeated the exercise.

Reznor was an opportunist who tried to get down with the kids and advocate "free" as the future. He's had to go back to a major with his tail between his legs and for a much reduced advance as a result of his own behaviours.

Yeah, I only learned about the 'reply button' disappearing recently myself.

I wonder who it was that was so offended that they just had to flag things here, instead of just moving on?

No one made them look at it -- you could see from the still image on the video what the content would be.

Do they want to censor Michelangelo's "David" sculpture?

In motion or still, there's no difference -- nothing obscene was depicted. Unless one thinks the human body itself is obscene.

How do they live with themselves when they suddenly find that they're in the shower and [Gasp!] naked?

Jeez -- they should have just moved along as with anything else you might find on the Web.

At least TF did the wise thing and didn't actually delete anything.
