I'm ok with all points. The last is bs.

I'm a supporter of nuclear energy, with responsibility. It's a mid term solution for the energy and pollution issues (please, stick the greenhouse effect up in Al Gore's ass, I'm talking about toxic, particulates and other REAL problems). And it has the potential to evolve into less harming solutions that might power us in the long term. But if they wanna go for it and can point the alternatives or SUPPORT research into better alternatives then way to go.

For the record, Germany doesn't want to use nuclear but they are happy to import electricity from France (80%+ nuclear power matrix, any1?). That's no small task the PP is facing and maybe they'll overcome it.

Basic salary supplied by the govt? Why not? With increasing automation and unemployment what do you suggest? Capitalism has proven to be a broken model. What do you think we should do now? I don't have the answers, maybe this is part of the answer.

And you say communist as if it were the greatest evil. Cold War is over, get over it. If the said party is aligned to PP principles why not seek partnerships?

Berlin is more accurately referred to as "The city-state of Berlin". They have their own legislature and are, de facto, a national entity within a federal republic.

By any criteria they are a country. A nation with permanent subservience to a joint federation yes, but still a nation.

Which is why it's perfectly possible for the city-state of Berlin to have radically different laws than, say, Bavaria.

It's interesting to note that your criticism of Rick Falkvinge is based on your own preconceptions of what a federal republic is - preconceptions which are, in fact, wrong. Looking at the US every separate state even has the national guard - i.e. independent armed forces under total control of the governor.

Ricks comparison to both a "country" and to the state of Oregon still stands. If any critizism can be levied it would be that New Zealand (being "independent") is, in fact, subservient to a far greater degree to the commonwealth than the nation-states of Oregon and Berlin are to the USA and the Bundesrepublik Germany respectively.

And then you start the entire post with the claim that Rick should leave politics. Because he is achieving success, presumably?

Looks to me like you could need a trip back to school yourself.

If we have to be truly accurate then according to the constitution of the Bundesrepublik Deutschland - the Federal Republik of Germany - then the counties are in fact accurately described as "countries".

Dating back to the fact that the German city-states are considered nations in their own right according to the charter of the republic. Nations which grant the republic sovereign authority in many issues according to the wording of the charter.

If you consider that Berlin in many ways IS considered a sovereign state according to the Bundesrepublik you will actually be accurate as well as pedantic. Something you might want to strive for, judging by your nick.

The alternative tends to lead to being simply a pompous ass.

I just saw the Douglas Adams quote, and then noticed the word "time" at the beginning of your post. I have to say this at least once a week and you've given me the opportunity, "Time is an illusion. Lunchtime doubly so."

I'm not one to believe in an afterlife but I can't help but smile and think that right now in some way, shape or form, Douglas Adams is hitchhiking his way across the galaxy as I write this. Sharing his wisdom and humor with whatever beings he may run across on his journey.

Sorry to hear about the cancer Rob.
