As a side note, the whole 'site' thing isn't as settled as you might thing.
There are a number of people who put their own material on torrent sites. Our researcher has many gigabytes of torrented data listed on TPB, for which he owns the copyright, that includes digital copies of his book (30,000+ copies download!) and countless hours (300 I think) of audio on technology, security, law, and creativity topics (including people like Bruce Schneier, and Chris Soghoian)

civil yes, more leeway, no.
You can FILE a lawsuit for anything, but the abilities to make/get restitution are narrowly defined.
In fact, such a suit would not only be handily won by us, but would possibly see a counter-claim for vexatious litigation.

No shit you're not a lawyer because nothing you've said makes any legal sense anyways, not by a long shot.

I don't think you know how the law works with copyright infringement because if you did, you'd realize what you're trying to say or put across is totally without merit. You can link something all you want but in the case of TorrentFreak, they are linking to Rotten Tomatoes for the Top Ten most pirated movies. RT has the premise and reviews of each film, nothing wrong with linking it to something like that. I'm sure RT would be the first site to ban or ask TF to stop linking to them but it's still happening.

All TF is doing is saying "here's the films people are downloading and here are the synopsis of each one". They aren't linking to TPB or another torrent site. They aren't telling you which torrent software to use or the best ways to speed up your downloads. They aren't even telling people to do it, just providing news. They aren't telling you where to get them though, that's where you're wrong.

TF would've been targeted a long, long, long time ago if they were 1% accessory to people downloading. You think trolls and lawyers and studios who are sending out take-down notices like crazy by the 1000's haven't targeted TF yet for a reason? They can't make a site take down a link if it's done nothing wrong. If that was the case, half of the websites in the world would be gone then without any reason accept for the fact someone thinks something may happen because of content (which isn't illegal) is on a site.

Don't be so paranoid and buy into this whole propaganda regarding torrents and people getting sued. It's all BS and not even close to being legal (in terms of hauling someone into court).

"It's like commenting on a gun and then someone trying to link you to a murder used with the same gun you commented on. Or like liking a car on Facebook and then being named as an accessory to manslaughter when the same car kills someone in an accident."
It's more like commenting on a gun then linking to a website that tells you how to murder people, and liking a car and linking to an illegal street racing gang.
The links in http://torrentfreak.com/top-10-popular-torrent-sites-2014-140104/ are for sites that purposefully allow users to upload infringing content.

"I download from TPB regularly and take the TorrentFreak Top Ten into consideration too. Does that make them an accessory to my downloads?"
As mentioned by the above link, TorrentFreak tells you where to get the infringing downloads.

"How about Rotten Tomatoes for their revues on movies or suggestions? How about anywhere online someone suggests a movie?"
Rotten Tomatoes does not allow unlawful use of their site.

"You're as bad as the RIAA and MPAA."
Not true. I believe copyright trolls should die out, and I am just warning that TorrentFreak's behavior COULD give rise to liability.

Oh please, you couldn't do a thing with this article or any other article in civil court. How would you even prove that it helped facilitate anyone from doing copyright infringement or downloading. Or like liking a car on Facebook and then being named as an accessory to manslaughter when the same car kills someone in an accident.

You're really stretching this to something not even remotely connected to a civil matter. Good luck too in someone proving this in court. You're as bad as the RIAA and MPAA.
