Interesting analysis but you have missed a fundamental point - technology is not created by the masses - it is the act of those who are interested in technology. Tim Berners Lee, Bram Cohen, Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, all the game developers, etc are the types of personalities we are talking about. File sharers (whether 30 million or just 10) are not necessarily super geeks or driven to invent technology but to be a competent file sharer you still have to be interested in learning the technology that allows you to share. Not surprisingly the billions of people in the world that don't file share are those that use a computer and net technology without caring about how it works. A bit like driving a car but never bothering to find out how the internal combustion engine works or how to change your worn brake pads. Your point that change is affected by the masses in erroneous. Change is affected by those that are interested in the thing that is changing or will be changed. The impact of the net will not be felt for a few generations. File sharers today are part of a societal change that is occurring through the wide spread use of technology. Whether they care to be part of that change or not is irrelevant since by using technology to freely share they have inadvertently made the decision to be part of that societal change. The 30 million regular file sharers constitutes the largest proportional force of that change in relation to the spread of free culture and technology to the masses. They therefore have the right to claim that they are part of the main group of people who are affecting that societal change on the billions of people who have no interest in how technology affects them and just want the tool to serve their needs or desires.

imagine what ?
that if the perfect service existed piracy would vanish ?
i hear what your saying but i think the result would be minor.
simply because the vast overwhelming majority of downloaders wouldn't buy anyway..
you gotta think about what you said ;)
