Some funny commentary here: immediately labelling whole study as lie just because the organization has a certain kind of name. I’ve never heard of it either, but at least I went to the site and it doesn’t look like it has much at all to do with the industry.

Oh, I agree, I was just playing devil’s advocate with my post, I know all the numbers ever generated by the MPAA/RIAA/BSA are so overinflated and skewed that they could never prove to be trustworthy or reliable. Picking a nice, round number(s) to shock or scare people is the oldest trick in the book, these organizations just take it to a whole new level though.

Obviously because the report isn’t true.

See, if any of the MPAA/RIAA claims were true to even 10% concerning the amount of money generated by “pirate sites” then setting up their own versions would save their business model instantly.

The MPAA/RIAA know full well such estimates are garbage. It’s just one more case of trying to whine loudly enough to ensure an unnecessary service gets paid for by the public purse.

I can start a blog today, estimate a few thousand visitors, and drop that blog’s url into the same estimation engine which was used in the study above and have it come up with a “fact” that the blog is worth a thousand bucks monthly.
