Well, tecnically, beacuse of the fair use act, you are allowed to make back up copys of the shit you buy, but beacuse the DMCA contradicts that law, you can still be sued for doing what is completly legal. You see, you may see it as leagal according to the fair use act, but the RIAA sees it as illegal due to DMCA restrictions, and they dont acknowledge the fair use act when they go to sue you. It's a nice little loophole that they managed to get passed via the DMCA. As for itunes and the like, I've never used to to rip shit, but had always assumed it dished your stuff out in whatever crap DRM format they prefer these days. I of course could be wrong, but even if I am, I dont trust them to not tattle if they do somehow collect info on what you do with their software, so I'll continue to back up my shit the old fashioned way, by downloading a copy. - CJ

Well i head that ripping cd's is illegal as is everything but why does every music software have that feacher Why does itunes rapsody and windows media player and everything else. Just had a thought "MPAA" puts out there own music store OMFG that would be priceless. Best DRM solution ever. You can play back the song on up to one Playsforsure device, can't be transfered anywhere except inside the folder where u downloaded it to, also best of all, every time you play the song it will phone home and inform those ass bags about what you are listening to. And the second they see that it's on bittorrent they will immediately call the local police and they come to your house and pick you up. Aint that great?

further more the software player would even be much better. wow. FUCK THE COOPERATE WORLD BIACH!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, johnboy, you'll have to tell me which intros, and how long on each bit, like all the way into and through the song, or stop before the music, and glad you like the show. If you like the intros, grab the pod2peer shows, over at pod2peer.com. Skip all the way to the very end of the track. Since episode one I have done a special sponser bit that most people love when they realise I do em. I kepp it at the very end as a suprise, and most people dont know that they are there.

jon, I'm not sure where your getting you information, but in the US, you cant rip a cd you bought to mp3, thats a violatuion of the DMCA, and distributing it over the internet is, for now, a violation of copyrighrt law. Sure, you CAN do it, but it aint legal, for now.
Apple rips thier shit to fairplay DRM so they have anything but fair play when it comes to sales. You see, if you can only play the song on the ipod, then you have to keep buying an ipod every time you upgrade your mp3 player, thus assuring them, (apple), a healthy business in mp3 sales. Once you decided to forgo apple, you technically have to drop all the music you paid for. (unless you say fuck apple and rip their shit like you would a cheap whore.)
I also dont think I can play devils advocate to the MPAA, I'm just not stupid enough. But fear not, I will endevor to smoke as muych pot and and shoot as much heroine as I can, and who knows? - CJ

hey charlie i have a question i have been wondering this for a while. How come if i go to the store and buy a CD and rip it to my hard drive i could make it a mp3. I can freally distribute it over the internet. But why can't those cock suckers "cough" apple just rip there shit in MP3 and distribute it that way. I heard on Buzz out loud one of cnet's podcasts that someone developed a great version of DRM which i think is completely fair and it's the best solution if there HAS to be DRM implemented. What happens is that each song is digitally tagged with a certain serial number. U can transfer it to a billion devices and do w/e you want with it. What the serial does is give those cock sucking bastards a tracker to the song so if it lands up on some torrent site they can sue ur ass to hell. I think that's a great strategy. And hey it would be cool if u could do a little segment as if u where the mpaa and think of the piracy issue from there perspective not the consumers and be for DRM instead of against. That would be sweet.

Love the show it RULEZ!!!!!!!
