We're not talking about marketshare, we're talking about people who pay Canonical money. Most average joes don't pay Canonical anything. And don't think that the pirate tools will attract more "customers." Piracy is all about not paying for anything. Only a loon thinks that the pirates are going to pony up for an open source product just because it's cool. Get real.

In order for Canonical to survive and thrive, they need contracts from paying businesses that need support. I don't care how many lines of code are in the piracy tool, but any business would be a fool to install it for all of the reasons I mentioned. It's just another invitation to goof off and ensnare the business in an infringement lawsuit.

Bittorrent is all about piracy. It's all about not paying. They can try to rebrand it all they want, but it ain't going to change.

I looked further into that grant, and it was actually for 2.3 million. He recovered from losing the grant almost right away.

Theo (the OpenBSD developer) is a real lightning rod and unfiltered type of person. He is so capable, that even after trashing Linux many times publicly, he still has a load of respect from most of them.

When it comes to the open source OS world, or Linux specifically, Ubuntu is the mentally challenged stepchild. It's pretty much just Debian (a true and very worthy distro) code with a crap load of Canonical GUI vomit. Like Unity for example.

I'm a Debian/LXDE and OpenBSD/LXDE/Fluxbox guy. No fluff or hand holding allowed.
