This was bound to happen. The admin was French.... How can you be so fucking stupid and operate such a website while being citizen of a country with strict copyright laws that could get you in serious trouble. Of course every little threat will send you running then. I'm surprised he didn't shit his pants earlier. Ah well, good riddance. The guy earned more than 100k $ in donations. The lowest scum of the pirate scene are those making money off the work of scene groups. Honour the people who cracked the shit and delivered it to you for free. Instead people throw money at profiteers and whine when they pack their bags when it gets hot...

It's pretty funny reading these lame ass justifications for pirating. It doesn't matter how much you think you're entitled to breaking the law due to some pseudo-limitations of original games. Out of all my Windows based 90s games, every single one still runs on a current 64bit Windows 7...despite copyprotections. Those were so rudimentary back in the day that it's really laughable to actually cite them as source for problems...And even if, you can always download a crack after buying the game legally...oh and what about GOG? Those releases are DRM-free and were shared despite the fact that they are probably the most hassle free releases you can find online (and that goes for legit AND pirate sources). So stop the bullshit, you fucking hypocrites! At least have a spine and admit you're pirating because you're too lazy, too broke or just don't give a fuck, but spare others your attempts at justifying piracy...

UG was not the only place to get old stuff from like most of the regular UG-morons would like to make you believe. Most of that stuff came from other sites, so it's still available. You just have to know where to look.

I just don't understand people who spend their time sharing stuff that's not theirs to share. If they really care deeply about sharing, why not use the usenet for it? I believe those people who share exclusively on private torrent sites rather than the public usenet are in it for some kind of self centric ego-pleasing/fame/accomplishment or whatever. Back in the good old days, being an opportunistic collector/librarian was alright - just keep your collection private until the copyright expires and no harm done.
It's one thing to share stuff in order to preserve it for future generations than doing it for personal gain of one sort or another. If you care about preserving stuff, free usenet has binary retention of 2 years. You can upload stuff encrypted every 2 years until the copyright expires with encrypted names to stay fully legit. Set up some kind of trust/foundation that releases the decryption keys in a thousand years, as the copyright keeps getting extended.
