Too bad we can't... you know... hack into Wakenet's wonderful websites and change all their download links to legitimate programs. ;) Too bad I'm not that clever.

How do so many rip off sites stay on the web? For instance, go to www.spybotsearchanddestroy.com I typed it into my address bar looking for the real Spybot program (which is legit) but the web site redirected to www.spy-bot.com, a really spiffy-looking site that offers a download for Antispyware 2010 (Now 2011). I downloaded it and, even though it didn't do anything harmful, it found no errors and asked me to "register" the program to fix it. The registration page is vague and no doubt, leads to a page where you have to pay. Suspicious, I did some research, removed the program, and downloaded the REAL Spybot: Search and Destroy.

Really, these crap sites are all over... and considering so many people write about them, you'd wonder why no one has ever tried to take action to remove the sites. Isn't there a law against fraud?

(Hey, Swedish law is good with companies such as ThePirateBay, but Sweden has to do something about Wakenet. Thanks Jalla for Johan Anders Christian Wennberg's info. He deserves a good many complaint emails about his evil company.)

I am an owner of a well known torrent site that has been around for 5+ years now. C4DL Media contacted me to try to get me to show banner ads for their torrent client, and media player on my site. I would of course never do this as we don't do ads, especially with crooks like this bunch, but watch out as the new crop of untrustworthy and greedy torrent site owners may take up their offers, at their members expense.
