Yeah, all you have to do to disable all ads in 3.3 is setting the following settings to false in advanced prefs:

offers.sponsored_torrent_offer_enabled

offers.left_rail_offer_enabled

gui.show_plus_upsell

And anything else can be disabled via the regular options menu and columns right click menu. Takes like 1 min. to make 3.x look just as clean as 2.x. People constantly spit hyperbole about how 'bad' and 'bloated' recent versions of utorrent are. while the ads are annoying and I don't like their decision to go ad supported, the ads *are* all *opt-out*.

Seriously, how many ad supported programs that have a paid ad free version have you guys seen that allow users of the free version to simply disable all the advertisements? While I'm not a fan of ad supported, I think they've at least been reasonably tactful about it.

Most private trackers that I use have already whitelisted 3.4. and as Ben Jones mentions in a comment below, most of these 'issues' are things like poor client settings.

While I don't agree with some of utorrents decisions as of late, the amount of FUD I see being flung around about it in these comments is absurd. Its still a good client, and still the best windows client for sure.

Qbittorrent and Deluge have somewhat meh windows ports (the developers do their best, but most of them don't even use windows). Deluge's gtk interface is horrible on windows, ugly and leaks memory, and the client in general doesn't perform as well as utorrent with many torrents (It looks like a lot of these performance issues may be addressed with the upcoming 1.4 release though, so I will keep an eye on the client). Qbittorrent fares a lot better on windows, but I constantly run into bugs and issues with its webui which is a deal-breaker for me, and I really dislike its rss downloader interface compared to utorrent.

On windows I'd hands down take utorrent 3.x over deluge or qbittorrent at the moment. While I'd love to use an open source client, nothing has really stepped up to take utorrent's place on the windows side. Tixati is about the closest I've seen, but it looks like it will never be whitelisted on private trackers because of certain spoofing features the client supports, which is a deal breaker.

I've had no issues with recent versions of utorrent. its still fairly light on resources (I've tried deluge and qbittorrent and if anything they are slower/more resource intensive...). The adds and such can all be disabled in the utorrent preferences. utorrents interface is quite customizable actually, you can disable pretty much every single toolbar making it very minimalistic if you wish to.

Hating utorrent is just a bandwagon.
