Ironically, while utorrent is often associated with illegal file sharing, why doesn’t anyone talk about downloading utorrent plus using utorrent from torrents? :P

Well I just installed 3.4.2 and managed to easily remove the ads using the advanced options. gui.show_plus_upsell is there as an option for me.

I am laughing at all the idiots moaning about the fact that they removed the easy way of removing ads and then haven’t bothered to look up if there is any way to still remove them. “Oh I’m not going to update then”. It’s like a kid saying “It’s my ball and I’m taking it with me”. Grow up.

I just clicked false to anything that looked ad related in settings and all that flash crap disappeared. About half a dozen true false options near the bottom of the list did the trick. I can live with a UTorrent banner in the lower left corner.

Sticking with uTorrent 3.1.3 and will never ever upgrade. Ever. Other than adding annoying crap like ads and toolbars and shit that I don’t need, the basic torrent engine hasn’t changed at all.

I managed to get uTorrent 3.4.2 ad free. Don’t know exactly how, but here’s what I did: I freshly installed uTorrent 3.4.2 (didnt have utorrent on this laptop before), then saw the ads and went to http://www.oldapps.com/utorrent.php?old_utorrent=13568 to get 3.3.2. I opened that installer, and it said: you already have a newer version installed, do you want to downgrade. I clicked yes, so it downgraded. But now, when I start uTorrent, it says uTorrent 3.4.2 (build 32239) in the title bar and in the Help > About section, but the options to remove the ads in Preferences > Advanced are still there, including show_plus_upsell.

Yay! They reinstated the settings to opt-out of both advertisements!

To anyone that needs help with this, go to Options -> Preferences -> Advanced, and set:

offers.sponsored_torrent_offer_enabled
gui.show_plus_upsell

both to “*false.” (:

I would not mind buying the paid version just to get rid of the ads..
but i’m not cool with the Idea that I will have to subscribe to automatic pay update’s.
It’s never cool to automatically take cash from my pocket for something like software.
